Story: Emmanuel Modey, Kpando

After recess saw the more determined Lions team trying desperately to score and they kept the Kessben goal area boiling, and deservedly Adiyiah struck in the 77th completing a two-man move with Alan Shearer.
Alan Shearer outran two defenders and beat on-rushing goalkeeper Alhassan Mohammed, before laying a neat pass for Adiyiah to tap in.

CHURCH CHOIR ENDS RALLY ...Page 35

Story: Emmanuel Mordey, Hohoe

The 12th Zonal Rally of the Good News Choirs Union branch of the Evangelical Church, Ghana, ended at Hohoe with a call on Christians to translate their Christianity into acts which will be beneficial to the society.
Christianity, it was observed, was a call to self denial, taking the cross to assist the vulnerable in society.
The Principal of the Peki Seminary, Rev Dr S.S Agidi, who preached the sermon to close the rally therefore cautioned against prosperity messages when Christians continued to suffer.
This, he said, was the cause of the springing up of churches to make it look as if Christianity was cheap.
Rev Dr Agidi said singing and dancing alone was not enough to be a disciple.
"It is about sharing with the deprived, visiting the sick and prisoners, and helping one another", he said.
He therefore called for dedication of their lives to serve one another and God.
The Hohoe District Chief Executive, Mr John-Peter Amewu, asked them to remain steadfast in their endeavours and be faithful to one another.
He assured them of the government's preparedness to collaborate with churches for development.
The Member of Parliament for Hohoe North Constituency, Mr Jacob Prince Hayibor, was positive that God was ever ready to assist them in all their difficulties.
He called on the south to come together to assist in income generating ventures.
Before then, the members were at the Hohoe District Hospital where they donated 50 pieces of bed sheets and pillow cases to their adopted children's ward, donated blood to the blood bank and cleaned the yard.

ADMIT CHRISTIANS INTO CHIEFTAINCY INSTITUTION (Page 26)

Story: Emmanuel Mordey, Akpafu Adorkor

THE Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EP), Rt. Rev. Dr Livingstone Buama, has lamented at the alienation of some Christians from the chieftaincy institution.
He explained that the chieftaincy institution, like other forms of leadership arose out of the natural instinct for self and community preservation.
Rt Rev Dr Buama was preaching the sermon as part of activities to climax the 75th anniversary celebration of the Akpafu Adokor E.P Church in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region.
“Some people have become so holy that they see the institution as ungodly,” the Moderator said adding that such people did not respect their chiefs, leading to indiscipline in the society.
He advised the congregation that in addition to transmitting all government policies, chiefs were still considered as custodians of the cultural heritage.
He commended the congregation for starting their magnificent chapel and encouraged them to finish it in good time.
Rt. Rev Dr Buama asked Christians to strive to work hard in all their endeavours and reminded them that the Christian life was not rosy.
The Presiding Member of the Hohoe District Assembly, Mr Ayega Kamabla, on behalf of the Hohoe District Chief Executive, Mr John Peter Amewu asked Christians to leave a positive mark in their lives for others to emulate.
He urged the congregation to rise up and shine by doing something for the church.
An appeal for fund to complete the church yielded ¢45 million, whilst a citizen of the town Mr Eugene Atikpo, an official of the Bank of Ghana, Sunyani, donated an organ worth ¢8 million to the church.
Earlier in a welcoming address, the SSUB-chief of the town, Bosate Akpangla was thankful to the church for all that it had done for the town over the past 75 years.
The E.P Church, he said, was the dominant church in the town with a school which has produced a lot of notable people who have served and are serving in very important positions in the country.
He noted that the chiefs had played important roles in the development of the town but decried the lack of enthusiasm among the youth towards communal labour.

LIONS DEVOUR SPORTIVE (Back Page)

Story: Emmanuel Mordey, Kpando

KPANDO Heart of Lions started the 2007/2008 Onetouch Premier League season on a bright note with a 2-0 home victory over Tema Real Sportive at Kpando yesterday. The goals came in each half.
The first half was dominated by Lions, who, in their haste to score an early goal, wasted six corner kicks within the first 25 minutes.
The homesters continued to mount pressure on their opponents and had their efforts rewarded in the 32nd minute when Obed Ansah completed a two-man move with Dominic Adiyiah to the far corner of the net.
Against the run of play in the 55th minute, however, Player of the Match, Adiyiah, broke loose from the midfield and laid a neat pass to Abraham Annan who outran a defender before lobbying the ball over on-rushing gaolkeeper Ben Teiko in goal for Sportive.
