SANTROKOFI BUME RAISES FUNDS FOR DEVELOPMENT (PAGE 20)

THE chiefs and people of Santrokofi Bume in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region have used their homecoming event to raise funds for community development projects in the town.
At their second homecoming event held at Bume during the Christmas festivities, the people realised GH¢8,000.00 to complete a two- unit nurses quarters.
During the first homecoming event in 2005, they raised money to complete their junior high school block for the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Santrokofi Bume Development Association (SABUDA), Mr Christian Kedze, said in the light of the success of the homecoming activities, they had decided to celebrate it annually to raise funds for community-based development projects.
The guest of honour, Mr Prince Jacob Hayibor, who is the Member of Parliament for Hohoe North, commended the people for their foresight in raising funds to finance development projects.
He expressed the wish that other communities would take a cue from the efforts of the community and stop relying on the government to provide their needs.
Mr Hayibor expressed satisfaction that the people had focused on education and health to justify the huge investment and for a bright future.
He further advised parents to be responsible and invest in their children's education instead of organising grand funerals.
The Paramount Chief of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, Nana Letsabi I, praised the Bume community for their commitment and high sense of discipline and called on the executive of the SABUDA to demonstrate transparency and truth in their dealings at all times to build confidence and trust in the people.
For his part, the Adontehene of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, Nana Kwaku Otitiaku III, placed emphasis on unity and urged those who were not members of the SABUDA to try and join the association since it was there for them.
A retired British teacher, Ms Elizabeth Martell, who is contributing towards child development projects in the municipality was installed the Nkosuohemaa of Bume under the stool name of Mama Dansua I.
Seven prominent sons and daughters of the town received various prizes for their selfless contributions towards the development of the town.
